Funny Library Montage

As today is the last day of the school year for students... I think it's good enough reason to post a fun video about libraries in films and on television shows... Enjoy!

convert your name to non-fiction!

The link above brings you to a webpage that will convert your name to a non-fiction category listed in the Dewey Decimal System, somewhere between 000 and 999.

Try it!    : )

Library: bookworm's restaurant

My aunt mailed me this teabag paper tab... I love it!

The short quote is perfect... and I now use the note as a bookmark... so it has indeed accompanied me to many cafes while I sip a hot latte.  : )

Click the link above to be taken to a wonderful article about Frank Halmans, a Dutch artist, who has carved windows and doors into stacks of vintage books to create buildings in a creative way.

It's a Book. - video trailer

This is the book trailer for one of my favorite books that has come out in the past few years... very funny and very true!

The title of the book is, It's a Book.

Home into Public Library

A wonderful BBC article, worth reading! (Click the link below...)

I really enjoyed the following quote from the end of the article:
"A book should be used and reused. It has life, it has a message."

reading with 1st grade

As a special part of Book Week, Mr. Vince's 7th and 8th grade ESL students went to the elementary campus to read with the two 1st grade classes! We all had a lot of fun reading Robert Munsch books...

More photos from this trip can be seen on the Where We've Been Reading photo board outside the entrance to the library.

Wonderful Book Week!

Thank you to all students and teachers for a wonderful Book Week!

The beautiful bookmarks, which were designed following our theme: Anywhere, Anytime, Any BOOK, are now displayed in the stairwell between the ground floor and first floor... and students can choose one of the winning entries when they check out a book from the library.

Where We've Been Reading -- photo board at the beginning of the week...

Where We've Been Reading -- photo board at the end of Book Week!

I hope all of Ms. Michelle's students enjoyed their
Book Week homework as much as I would have!

And I LOVE what Ms. Michelle and her students did with her classroom's board!
Everyone posted what they were reading for Book Week    :D
...That is one good looking whiteboard!

The last day of our Book Week we also had a Grace's Cookie sale! Mmmmm.
I also sported my I <3 Books shirt that a friend recently sent me...
...with my special bookshelf necklace -- a gift from my brother.
Perfect!

caught ya reading!

I had to go back to the library and grab my camera to capture this moment... I loved walking into the Canteen last week and seeing a student SO into his book that he kept reading while eating! I love it Andy!

Andy didn't even notice me taking photos...
but his friends then let him know and we surprised him.

Congratulations - AIS Soccer Teams!

Congratulations to both the boys' and girls' soccer teams at the AIS Middle School!!

They both had a really great season.

I was happy to be able to attend the last game at the girls' tournament last Thursday held at BIS.

And shout-outs to Kelly Vu and Davina for each making a GOAL for their final game win!

BOOK WEEK is coming up!

AIS Book Week 2013

We are excited to have the school’s annual BOOK WEEK fast approaching! There will be a variety of activities going on at each AIS campus, all of which will celebrate books, literacy, and libraries! This year’s Book Week is taking place Tuesday, 19 February through Friday, 22 February. The theme of this year’s Book Week iiiiiis: Anywhere, Anytime, Any Book.

The following activities and things will be taking place at the Middle School:

·        Daily DEAR time. DEAR: Drop Everything And Read! Each day during Book Week, one subject will have DEAR time for the period. Bring a good book to school each day and enjoy this special time. Check out the DEAR schedule below!
Tuesday
Lang.Arts/ESL
Wednesday
Science
Thursday
Social Studies
Friday
Math

·        Design-a-Bookmark Contest. Each student is invited to create a bookmark that represents this year’s Book Week theme: Anywhere, Anytime, Any Book. Details and guidelines, along with a bookmark outline, will be handed out at homerooms at the beginning of Book Week. All entries that follow the guidelines will be displayed after Book Week, high-lighting the winning entries, which will also receive a prize! AND… (the fun keeps going...) copies of each grade’s winning bookmark entry will be made and given out to students after Book Week.

·        Guess How Many Books are in the Library. That’s right… take your best guess at how many books total are in the library’s collection (both checked in and checked out!). The closest guess will win a prize!

Where We’ve Been Reading. Look for the display in the hallway outside the library that shows all of the places we love to read! Whether the photos are of teachers traveling, students in a favorite spot, reading in a cafĂ©, or reading on an elephant... all of the photos showcase our love for reading. Everyone is welcome to submit their own photos throughout Book Week to be added to the display. If you submit a photo, see Ms. Stacia or Ms. Thy in the library for a sweet treat!

·        Teacher READ Posters. Back by popular demand… AIS teachers and staff have gotten creative and made READ posters, which showcase how much the adults love to read, while high-lighting some favorite books as well as some favorite places to read! These will be hanging around school; come walk around and check them out. You might even find a new favorite book!
o   Also keep an eye out for the numerous photos and posters on a bright yellow background, which will be hanging up all over the middle school! Some are funny, some are sweet… all represent a love for reading, libraries, and books!

·        Reading at the Elementary Campus. A special ‘Book Week Bonus’ goes to Mr. Vince’s ESL students. Mr. Vince and Ms. Stacia will be taking these 7th and 8th graders to the AIS Elementary School to read with the 1st grade classes. We will be reading books by author Robert Munsch and then writing a letter to him!

·   Handmade Bookmark Sale. One day during Book Week (date to be announced), Club READ will be sponsoring a bookmark sale! The bookmarks have been created by Club READ members and are beautifully done… in color, laminated, and many are decorated with a ribbon. The money raised from this sale will be donated to Grace’s Cookies. Come buy a bookmark or two… or ten! Each bookmark is 10,000d.

Lunch time in the Library

The library is pretty busy during both lunch periods - I love it!

Yesterday, a group of 6th graders worked to put the 3-D puzzle ball back together... Thomas came back this morning before school to finish it up. Nice work to all who helped!

Batman Uno has been popular as well...

And of course... straight-up reading went on as well...
Bill is one of the most committed non-fiction readers I know!

Happy photo-admiring!

READERS - photography in Vietnam

A friend of a friend of mine here in Ho Chi Minh City is a photographer... she has beautiful photographs on her website.

The first link I went to on her website was the 'READERS' link... ahhhh, I love it.
