Happy Halloween!

It was fun to see a number of students in costumes today for Halloween.

Homerooms did a great job decorating the classroom doors... and this afternoon's assembly was fun -- including mummy and bobbing for apple contests, as well as a quick costume parade!

Happy Halloween!

Oct. Spirit Assembly

The AIS Middle School's Spirit Assembly was held yesterday for the month of October...

It was nice to have time to celebrate great happenings that have taken place around the school so far this year!

Below are a couple videos... one is of the Stomp Club performing... and the other is our school's band: The B Team! Enjoy  :)

Tuesday morning, the 9th of October, Ms. Stacia and a group of 12 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders participated in an international writing competition, Write Path.

Write Path began in 2008 in the UK and has grown each year to now include over 60 schools from around the world.

The student participants worked in pairs to add on to a story that is started by a well-known author.

With one hour and a 250-word limit, each team worked together brilliantly to develop interesting and fun additions to each story.

From our teams’ story additions, other schools in a variety of countries will be adding on to the stories throughout the day.

Once again, the AIS middle school students showed how incredible they are and their writing skills shone bright.

AIS Middle School's Team for WRITE PATH 2012:

At the end of this progressive writing competition, the participants will vote on their favorite parts of each story in order to determine winning schools.

All of the stories will be published as a book, so each participant can consider him/herself a published author!

You can read more about Write Path and view the AIS teams’ writings at the following ning: <>. Our story pieces are within the Blog section as comments to the story starters from 09/10/2012.

The Pigeon!

I shared one of my all-time favorite picture books to read aloud -- Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, by Mo Willem -- with the students in Club READ a couple weeks ago - most of them seemed to really enjoy it :) ...and requested that I get the other Pigeon books to read to them!

7th grader, Minou, made the following for me:

Thanks Minou!
Both of these signs are now hanging on just inside the library's entrance!

AND... bizarrely enough, earlier in the day, a friend of mine from home in the States shared the following video with me. It is a video of a 2-year old narrating the book, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!

So cute.

stocking up!

6th grade Lucy has a good looking pile of books... as she's deeply
into the story of Artemis Fowl  :D

I just finished reading Brian Selznick's new book: Wonderstruck
 I definitely recommend it!

Even though the book is over 600 pages long
I started and finished it in less than 24 hours!
This is a great story... told through both words and beautiful illustrations.
...The 600 pages go by too fast!

Brian Selznick's other book that we have in the library is:
The Invention of Hugo Cabret
(Which has been made into a movie too!)
