Don't Call Me Ishmael

Grace's Cookies

This past Friday was the Student Council's fundraiser for Grace's Cookies.

The fundraiser was a huge success! We sold out of the cookies during the second lunch period and raised over 6 million dong for the charity!

Well-done Student Council  :)

The cookies were deeeelicious!

Reading Buddies #3

This morning was our 3rd visit across the street to the International School Saigon Pearl for Reading Buddies.

Miss Sarah, myself, and Mr. Jim took the 6th grade ESL students to read with their 3 year-old buddies. We are all very proud of Miss Sarah's students -- their reading has improved... they are using emotion when they read aloud and making the stories even more interesting... and are able to keep the interest of multiple 3 year-olds at a time! 

We all really enjoy this monthly activity.

Bananagrams

I've brought my Bananagrams game in to school this past week and have a few study hall classes hooked!

Have you heard of Bananagrams? It is kind of like Scrabble... but each player builds his/her own board of connected words.

I think this is a great game to play in school because it is all about words, spelling, and deeper-level thinking. Especially since English is not the first language of most AIS students... a word game is a great, fun activity!

So far the reigning champion is definitely Rosie during Block D!

10-minute Party

A couple Fridays ago, during the afternoon break, Miss Sarah and Miss Stacia held a mini, 10-minute party for the participants in the WRITE PATH competition last month!

We wanted to all get together to celebrate everyone doing a STELLAR job in this international writing competition.

Voting just ended and we are awaiting the results. No matter which school ends up winning - we know that our participants represented AIS in a GREAT way!

I thought it was funny that she also had the picture book, 

I Hate to Read!, with her... but obviously that isn't true.  :P

The Meanest Doll in the World!

Hi everyone! Did you enjoy reading the 3 books I recommended? Well, if you enjoyed it or you are enjoying it right now, I think you’ll like this book too. Ms. Kathleen (she’s teaching English for the 6^th graders!) introduced me to this book and she also said that she’ll donate it to the library. I hope it comes soon so the other 6^th graders can borrow it!

 In the book, The Meanest Doll in the World, Tiffany Fun craft and Annabelle Doll hid in their owner, Kate Palmer’s, backpack and got to go to school with her. They went around and explored.

Accidently, Annabelle and Tiffany got into another child’s backpack, named BJ. They got to go to BJ’s house and met other dolls like PJ Party Pals (Yvonne, Penny, and Beth) Troll Twins (Waterfall and Magnificent Mariah Raynebow) and the Cutouts. Well, there were also Mean Mimi, Sandra Doll, Techno-Man and Sleeping Billy. They are BJ’s sister’s toys, Callie.

Mean Mimi bosses everyone, even Tiffany and Annabelle too but they fought back. Sandra Doll and Sleeping Billy followed the PJ Party Pals (Yvonne, Penny and Beth) Troll Twins (Waterfall and Magnificent Mariah Raynebow) and the Cutouts’ side.

The 2 girls went back to BJ’s backpack and they thought they could get back to Kate’s backpack but what they didn’t know was that Mean Mimi followed them! What would happen to Annabelle and Tiffany?

Here are some hints that you can use to find the answer!

·         Read 2x what Mean Mimi said.

·         Look at what Mean Mimi did to the PJ Party Pals, Troll Twins, and the Cutouts in the past, too.

Donny recommends Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes was one of the best detectives in the old time, with his partner Dr. Watson or his partner's full name is Dr. John Henry Watson. According to Yahoo answer, they together solve many great mysteries and cases. They pass the danger, and trick things to pass the case. 

Sherlock Holmes was born at Britain, and I don't know the year, according to Wikipedia, he and his partner loved to smoke. When I was young, I loved to read Sherlock Holmes but now, I love The 39 Clues more. 

The best well known author that wrote a lot of Sherlock Holmes story is Arthur Conan Doyle.
